Pulmonary forms of infection, although uncommon, can occur when Sporothrix schenckii conidia are inhaled. Symptoms of pulmonary sporotrichosis mimic those of tuberculosis including constitutional complaints of fever, night sweats, weight loss, and fatigue as well as respiratory complaints including dyspnoea, cough, purulent sputum, and haemoptysis.
