Malaria caused by Plasmodium malariae. The clinical manifestations (usually appearing 20-40 days after sporozoite inoculation) are similar to those of vivax malaria but the paroxysms of fever chills commonly occur at interval of three days. It may persist for life with or without recurrent febrile episodes.

- when mixed with Plasmodium vivax
- when mixed with Plasmodium falciparum
