Non-thrombocytopenic purpura

Definition

A descriptive term for purpura caused by determinants other than low platelet count. This should be used for coding only when a more precise diagnosis is not available.

Exclusions

• Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis
• Antiphospholipid syndrome
• Drug-associated immune complex vasculitis
• Immune complex small vessel vasculitis
• Leukocytoclastic vasculitis
• Purpura or bruising due to vascular fragility
• Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura
• Traumatic purpura
