Definition

Osteomalacia can also occur in patients with primary hypophosphatemia due to one of the hereditary hypophosphatemic rickets syndromes (eg, X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets, autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets) or with tumor induced osteomalacia, an acquired paraneoplastic syndrome of renal phosphate wasting.
