Korsakoff syndrome

A disease of the nervous system, caused by deficiency of vitamin B1 in the brain. This disease commonly follows Wernicke encephalopathy, and may present with inability to form new memories, amnesia, confabulation, or hallucinations.
Coding Note
Chronic alcohol use may be associated with thiamine deficiency, but alcohol may also have effects on the brain via other mechanisms. This category should be used to describe cognitive symptoms due to chronic alcohol use if there is evidence of thiamine deficiency.

- Amnestic disorder due to use of alcohol
