A compression neuropathy due to entrapment of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel at the wrist.
Diagnostic Criteria
Compatible history and clinical examination findings. Electroneurography has a sensitivity of 85% and specificity of 95% and is most useful for confirming diagnosis (http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMcp013018). Ultrasound imaging may also be useful in diagnosis although magnetic resonance imaging may be superior.
