Classification of severity of airflow limitation in COPD (based on post-bronchodilator FEV1 (Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second)) GOLD 1: Mild FEV1 greater than or equal to 80% predicted GOLD 2: Moderate 50% equal to or less than FEV1 greater than 80% predicted GOLD 3: Severe 30% equal to or less than FEV1 greater than 50% predicted GOLD 4: Very Severe FEV1 less than 30% predicted

• Emphysema
• chronic tracheobronchitis
• chronic tracheitis
• Simple or mucopurulent chronic bronchitis
• asthmatic bronchitis NOS
• Bronchiectasis
• Asthma
• chronic bronchitis NOS
