Asbestosis is pneumoconiosis, an interstitial lung disease due to inhalation of asbestos fibres. The accumulation of fibres in the lung leads to diffuse fibrosis and formation of opacities in lower parts of lungs on chest X-ray. Asbestos bodies may be detected in lungs and sputum.
Diagnostic Criteria
Interstitial lung disease visible on chest radiography symptoms and occupational history of asbestos work.
Environmental and secondary asbestos exposure also should be considered.
Exclusions
- Pleural plaque with presence of asbestos
- with tuberculosis
Inclusions
- Asbestosis
